Sand Fulgurite
This specimen consists of several fragments of a sand fulgurite, including one prominent Y-shaped branching structure and several smaller tubular segments. The exterior surface is characterized by a rough, granular texture composed of cemented sand grains that did not fully melt during the lightning strike. The color is a uniform light tan to medium brown, typical of desert or beach sand. The interior of the tubes is hollow, revealing a central lumen where the lightning discharge passed. Close-up views show that the internal walls are lined with a smoother, glassy material (lechatelierite), which is the result of the silica in the sand being instantly fused by intense heat. The fragments vary in thickness, with the larger branching piece showing a wider diameter than the terminal segments. The specimen is entirely opaque from the outside due to the thick coating of adhered sand grains. There are no visible inscriptions or artificial markings on any of the fragments.
