Vintage Lithographed Tin Wind-up Toy Airplane

Description

This object is a vintage lithographed tinplate wind-up toy airplane, representing a high-wing monoplane typical of the interwar period. The toy is characterized by a vibrant red and cream checkerboard pattern that covers the entire upper surface of the wings and the top of the fuselage. The sides of the aircraft feature detailed lithography in red and cream, including four rectangular cabin windows on each side and a passenger door. A pilot figure, wearing a hood and goggles, is depicted in the forward cockpit window. The nose section is rounded and fitted with a two-bladed red propeller, which appears to be made of painted tin. The landing gear is composed of a pair of large forward wheels and a smaller tail wheel at the rear. The front wheels are particularly detailed, featuring lithographed wire spokes and tire markings that include the text 'CORD 25 x 3.85'. The propulsion is provided by an internal clockwork mechanism, with exposed metal gears and a winding slot visible on the underside between the front wheels. The manufacturer's emblem, a circular logo containing a stylized letter, is located on the fuselage door. The toy exhibits signs of use and age, including minor paint chips, surface scratches, and slight oxidation on the exposed metal edges, but remains structurally sound.
