Ammonite Fossil Fragment

Description

This specimen is a partial ammonite fossil, representing approximately half of a whorl. The fossil is characterized by a dark grey to black coloration with prominent, sharp radial ribs that are slightly curved. The inner whorls in the umbilical area show a lighter, yellowish-brown mineralization, likely calcite replacement. Complex, dendritic suture lines are clearly visible on the smoother surfaces of the inner whorls where the outer shell layer is absent, revealing the internal septal patterns. The specimen has been prepared to remove the surrounding matrix, exposing the structural details of the ribs and the umbilical region. The second image provides a ventral view, showing the thickness of the shell and the profile of the ribs as they cross the outer edge.
