Fossil shell fragments in matrix

Description

This specimen consists of an irregular, blocky sedimentary matrix, likely a fine-grained limestone or siltstone, containing numerous fossilized shell fragments. The matrix color ranges from a light gray to a brownish-tan. The most prominent features are the visible radial ribs (costae) on several shell fragments, which suggest a fan-like morphology typical of bivalve mollusks or certain brachiopods. These fragments are partially embedded and fractured, distributed primarily along one side and the edges of the rock. The opposite side of the specimen appears relatively smooth and devoid of large fossil inclusions, possibly representing a bedding plane. The shell material itself is calcified and appears lighter in color (white to cream) than the surrounding stone. No evidence of professional preparation is visible; the fossils are exposed through natural breakage of the rock.
