Fossil Sea Urchin (Cidaris sp.)
This specimen is a fossilized echinoid (sea urchin) belonging to the genus Cidaris. The fossil exhibits a sub-spherical corona with distinct radial symmetry. The interambulacral plates are prominently featured, displaying large, primary tubercles that are non-perforated; these structures would have originally supported thick, club-like spines. Between these primary rows, the surface is covered with smaller secondary tubercles and a fine granulated texture. The ambulacral areas appear as narrow, sinuous paths between the larger plates. The specimen is preserved in a light beige to tan calcitic matrix. The apical system on the top and the peristome on the bottom are partially obscured by matrix or natural wear, but the overall structural integrity of the test is well-preserved. The lateral view confirms a moderately inflated profile, typical of this genus.
