Flexicalymene Trilobite - Part and Counterpart
This specimen consists of a trilobite fossil of the genus Flexicalymene, preserved within a tan to light-brown sedimentary matrix. The set includes both the positive (the fossilized exoskeleton) and the counterpart (the negative impression left in the rock). The positive specimen displays a well-preserved cephalon with a distinct glabella and ocular regions, an articulated thorax with clearly defined axial and pleural lobes, and a pygidium. The exoskeleton shows a dark brown to black coloration, contrasting against the lighter matrix. The counterpart provides a detailed reverse impression of the trilobite's dorsal surface. Both pieces are irregularly shaped, suggesting they were split from a single natural nodule or concretion. The preparation appears minimal, focusing on the mechanical splitting of the rock to reveal the fossil. Morphological details such as the segment ribbing and the curvature of the cephalon are clearly visible across all images.
